The Lord of Life Fine Arts/Concert Series presents the Brookhaven
Flute Choir in concert on Saturday, 19 November at 7pm. The Brookhaven Flute Choir performs music of
all styles from Baroque to jazz on all of the instruments of the flute
family. Featured selections for this
program include an arrangement of J.S. Bach’s Wachet Auf, the exotic sounds of Cordova
by Albeniz, Preludio Y Tango
by Till MacIvor Meyn, the
haunting Blue Train by Ryohei Hirose, and the beautiful melodies of Serenade, Opus 11 by Björn
Axelsson.
The Brookhaven Flute
Choir rehearses weekly on the Brookhaven
College campus. Performances have included concerts at the
2003 Texas Music Educators Association convention in San Antonio, the Texas Association of Music
Schools annual conference in 2001, the Sigma Alpha Iota National Convention in
2000, and the 2001 National Flute Association Convention where they presented
the world premiere of their commissioned work Mariposas by Katherine Hoover.
Dr. Pamela Youngblood
is Coordinator of Instrumental Activities and associate professor of music at
Texas Woman’s University in Denton
where she teaches graduate and undergraduate flute students as well as music
courses. She has been principal flutist
and a featured soloist of the Wichita Falls Symphony Orchestra since 1980. An active recitalist, she has performed at
conventions of the National Flute Association (1999, 2003), the Texas Music
Educators Association (2001, 2002), and the National Association of College
Wind and Percussion Instructors (2001). She is also a founding member of the
resident performing ensemble Zephyr Winds which is dedicated to the discovery
and performance of chamber music for woodwinds.
She is the founder and director of the TWU and Brookhaven Flute Choirs.
Lord of Life Lutheran Church in Plano
is located at 3601 W. 15th Street
(near the Medical
Center, one block east of
Coit
Road). The concert is free, although a door
offering will be received. More
