The Fine Arts/Concert Series of Lord of Life Lutheran Church, Plano, TX, announces the first performance of its 2005-2006 season with duo violinists Aisha Dossumova and Jan Syrovatka in concert on Saturday, 24 September, 2005 at 7pm.

A native of Kazakstan, Aisha Dossumova began violin studies at age seven, and from 1998-2002 studied at the Kazakh National Academy of Music.  She won second prize in the Michelangelo Abbado International Violin Competition in Italy, and the first prize in the International Competition in Kazahkstan.  She has played recitals in Austria, Italy, France, England, Russia and Kazakhstan, and currently studies with Eduard Schmieder at SMU.

Jan Syrovatka, a native of the Czech Republic, studied at the Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts in Bratislava and the Janacek Academy of Performing Arts before commencing music study in Dallas.  A laureate of the Kocian International Violin Competitions in 1991 and 1993, he was a semifinalist in the Lublin competition in 1997 and placed third in the International Beethoven Competition in 2002. 

Accompanied by pianist Xiaomin Yi, the program will include Dmitri Shostakovich’s Four Preludes, Op. 34, no. 10; Pablo de Sarasate’sZapateado;” and a sonata for piano and violin by César Franck.   This concert is free and open to all.  The church is located at 3601 W 15th St., Plano.  More information is available from the church office (972.867.5588) or on www.lol-plano.org.
