LORD OF LIFE CONCERT SERIES PRESENTS “THE OCCASIONAL TUBAS” IN A CONCERT OF CLASSICAL AND JAZZ FAVORITES

On Saturday, 22 April at 7pm, Lord of Life Fine Arts/Concert Series presents DFW’s newest professional ensemble, “The Occasional Tubas.”  Featuring Karl Krause, Susan Thompson, Alex Cauthen and directed by Kevin Miller, these two tubas and two euphoniums will perform an eclectic array of music including transcriptions from Pachelbel, Mozart, John Philip Sousa, Scott Joplin, and Lennon and McCartney, amongst others.  This ensemble endeavors to arrange the most beautiful music written for this admittedly unusual combination of instruments, highlighting not only the often-forgotten “bass line” of the orchestra but also performing the classics in new ways.

In addition to serving as director of this ensemble, Kevin Miller teaches tuba in the Richardson, Garland and McKinney public schools.  Previously having played with the Fort Worth Symphony, the Arkansas Symphony, the Oklahoma Sinfonia and the Starlight Concert Band of Tulsa, he now regularly performs with the Dallas Wind Symphony, the Dallas Wind Symphony Tuba Quartet and the Richardson Symphony Orchestra.

Lord of Life Lutheran Church in Plano is located at 3601 W. 15th Street (near the Medical Center, one block east of Coit Road).  For more information about this free event please contact Benjamin Kolodziej, Director of Music (bkolodziej@lol-plano.org or 972.867.5588, ext 13.)
