OUR MISSION STATEMENT

Bring people into a living relationship with Jesus Christ by

reaching up to God in worship and prayer,

reaching in to be empowered by God’s Word as members of His family &

reaching out at every opportunity with the Gospel of Christ.

WELCOME!

We pray that your time in worship will encourage and strengthen you this morning. We share the greatest hope through the One who loves you the most – Jesus Christ!  As a Christian congregation we exist by the power and the grace of God.  We feel it is our mission to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ and the plan of God’s salvation to all.

If you are a GUEST, thank you for joining us.  Our greeters and pastor will be available after the service to answer any questions you have about Lord of Life.  We hope to see you again soon!

LARGE PRINT BULLETIN

Copies of today’s bulletin are available in LARGE PRINT.  Please ask an usher if you would like to use that larger size bulletin.

NURSERY/CRY ROOM

A staffed nursery is available for families with young children ages 2 and under in Room 109.  Or, if you prefer, Room 100 is available as a cry room and/or a room for nursing mothers.  Please ask an usher if you need assistance or directions.

ALL HOLY COMMUNION GUESTS please read:

“Whoever eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of sinning against the body and blood of the Lord.  A man ought to examine himself before he eats of the bread and drinks of the cup.  For anyone who eats and drinks without recognizing the body of the Lord eats and drinks judgment on himself.”  1Corinthians 11:27-29

Being admonished to receive Christ’s Body and Blood in a worthy manner, let us as Lutheran Christians prepare our hearts for reception of this sacrament by privately answering the following:

1.    Do I believe that I am a sinful human being without hope of eternal life except for God’s mercy in Christ?

2.    Do I believe that Jesus Christ is God’s Son and my personal Savior?

3.    Do I believe that He is personally present in the Sacrament of Holy Communion with His Body and Blood?

4.    Do I hope by the power of the Holy Spirit to live a godly life?

AS YOU COME TO THE LORD’S SUPPER you are affirming with each communicant that Jesus is your Savior and Lord, that you believe His Body and Blood are present, and that you desire to serve Him as a dynamic disciple in the fellowship of the church.

 THE SERVICE OF WORSHIP

+++ WE GATHER AS GOD’S PEOPLE +++

AS WE GATHER

Today we celebrate All Saint’s Day and recall from John’s Revelation what heaven is like for our loved ones who have already died in the Lord.  It’s what awaits us, too!

PRELUDE                                                                                                                                           “Allein Gott in der Hoeh' sei ehr”

                                                                                                                            arr. by Paul Manz

ENTRANCE HYMN                                                                                                                                              “For All the Saints”

INVOCATION

Pastor:    In the name of the Father, and of the † Son, and of the Holy Spirit.

People:  Amen.

OUR CONFESSION AND GOD’S FORGIVENESS

Pastor:    Almighty God, to whom all hearts are open, all desires known, and from whom no secrets are hid: Cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit, that we may perfectly love You and worthily magnify Your holy name, through Jesus Christ our Lord.

People:  Amen.

Pastor:    If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. But if we confess our sins, God who is faithful and just will forgive our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.         I John 1: 8

Silence for personal confession.

Pastor:    Most merciful God

People:  We confess that we are by nature sinful and unclean. We have sinned against You in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done and by what we have left undone. We have not loved You with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves.  We deserve Your present and eternal punishment.  For the sake of Your Son, Jesus Christ, have mercy on us. Forgive us, renew us, and lead us, so that we may delight in Your will and walk in Your ways, to the glory of Your holy name.   Hear my voice when I call, O Lord; be merciful to me and answer me.  Amen.

Pastor:    Almighty God, in His mercy, has given His Son to die for us and, for His sake, forgives us all our sins. As a called and ordained minister of the Church of Christ, and by His authority, I therefore forgive you all your sins, in the name of the Father, and of the † Son, and of the Holy Spirit.

People:  Amen.

PSALMODY                                                                                                                                                          Psalm 34: 1-10

Pastor:    I will extol the Lord at all times; His praise will always be on my lips.

People:  My soul will boast in the Lord; let the afflicted hear and rejoice.

Pastor:    Glorify the Lord with me; let us exalt His name together.

People:  I sought the Lord, and He answered me; He delivered me from all my fears.

Pastor:    Those who look to Him are radiant; their faces are never covered with shame.

People:  This poor man called, and the Lord hear him; He saved him out of all his troubles.

Pastor:    The angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear Him, and He delivers them.

People:  Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the man who takes refuge in Him.

Pastor:    Fear the Lord, you His saints, for those who fear Him lack nothing.

People:  The lions may grow weak and hungry, but those who seek the Lord lack no good thing.

All:         Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end.  Amen.

Pastor:    I will extol the Lord at all times; His praise will always be on my lips.

PRAYER FOR THE WORD

Pastor:    Lord God, heavenly Father, send forth Your Son to lead home His bride, the Church, that with all the company of the redeemed we may finally enter into His eternal wedding feast; through the same Jesus Christ, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.

People:  Amen.

OLD TESTAMENT READING                                                                                                                  Isaiah 26:1-4; 8-9; 12-13; 19-21

1 In that day this song will be sung in the land of Judah: We have a strong city; God makes salvation its walls and ramparts.

2 Open the gates that the righteous nation may enter, the nation that keeps faith.

3 You will keep in perfect peace him whose mind is steadfast, because he trusts in you.

4 Trust in the LORD forever, for the LORD, the LORD, is the Rock eternal.

8 Yes, LORD, walking in the way of your laws, we wait for you; your name and renown are the desire of our hearts.

9 My soul yearns for you in the night; in the morning my spirit longs for you. When your judgments come upon the earth, the people of the world learn righteousness.

12 LORD, you establish peace for us; all that we have accomplished you have done for us.

13 O LORD, our God, other lords besides you have ruled over us, but your name alone do we honor.

19 But your dead will live; their bodies will rise.  You who dwell in the dust, wake up and shout for joy.  Your dew is like the dew of the morning; the earth will give birth to her dead.

20 Go, my people, enter your rooms and shut the doors behind you; hide yourselves for a little while until his wrath has passed by.

21 See, the LORD is coming out of his dwelling to punish the people of the earth for their sins.  The earth will disclose the blood shed upon her; she will conceal her slain no longer.

Reader:   This is the Word of the Lord.

People:  Thanks be to God.

EPISTLE READING                                                                                                                                 Revelation 21:9-11; 22-27

9One of the seven angels who had the seven bowls full of the seven last plagues came and said to me, "Come, I will show you the bride, the wife of the Lamb." 10And he carried me away in the Spirit to a mountain great and high, and showed me the Holy City, Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God. 11It shone with the glory of God, and its brilliance was like that of a very precious jewel, like a jasper, clear as crystal.

22I did not see a temple in the city, because the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are its temple. 23The city does not need the sun or the moon to shine on it, for the glory of God gives it light, and the Lamb is its lamp. 24The nations will walk by its light, and the kings of the earth will bring their splendor into it. 25On no day will its gates ever be shut, for there will be no night there. 26The glory and honor of the nations will be brought into it. 27Nothing impure will ever enter it, nor will anyone who does what is shameful or deceitful, but only those whose names are written in the Lamb's book of life.

Reader:   This is the Word of the Lord.

People:  Thanks be to God.

ALLELUIA VERSE                                                                                                                                   “Halle, Halle, Halle”

Alleluia, Lord, to whom shall we go?

You have the words of eternal life.  Alleluia, Alleluia.

GOSPEL                                                                                                                                                       Matthew 5:1-12

1Now when he saw the crowds, he went up on a mountainside and sat down. His disciples came to him, 2and he began to teach them saying: 3"Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. 4Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.  5Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth.  6Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled. 7Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy.  8Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.  9Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called sons of God. 10Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.  11"Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. 12Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

Pastor:    This is the Gospel of the Lord.

People:  Praise to You, O Christ.

PROFESSION OF FAITH                                                                                                                         The Nicene Creed

All:      I believe in one God, the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth and of all things visible and invisible.

And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only-begotten Son of God, begotten of His Father before all worlds, God of God, Light of Light, very God of very God, begotten, not made, being of one substance with the Father, by whom all things were made; who for us men and for our salvation came down from heaven and was incarnate by the Holy Spirit of the virgin Mary and was made man; and was crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate.  He suffered and was buried.  And the third day He rose again according to the Scriptures and ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of the Father.  And He will come again with glory to judge both the living and the dead, whose kingdom will have no end.

And I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord and giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son together is worshiped and glorified, who spoke by the prophets.  And I believe in one holy Christian and apostolic Church, I acknowledge one Baptism for the remission of sins, and I look for the resurrection of the dead and life of the world to come.  Amen.
